The "National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data System Computing Technology" (hereinafter referred to as "National Engineering Laboratory") is a national-level technological innovation platform in the field of big data in China, officially approved by the National Development and Reform Commission in December 2016. It is led by Shenzhen University, in collaboration with the National Information Center, ZTE Corporation, Tsinghua University, and Tencent Technology. The establishment of the National Engineering Laboratory organized by the National Development and Reform Commission is an important measure to further implement the national strategic layout. Through the construction of the National Engineering Laboratory as an innovation platform, it aims to gather and integrate innovative resources, injecting new momentum into strategic emerging industries.
The National Engineering Laboratory adheres to the philosophy of "strengthening and expanding." It focuses on talent as a primary driving force and attracts talent teams with favorable conditions (salary, facilities, personnel support). It aims to tap into the potential of existing talent teams, supplemented by assessment and promotion mechanisms, while enhancing industrialization to form several first-class big data research and development teams. The goal is to build a high-performance cloud computing platform for big data, supporting the development of small and medium-sized enterprises and promoting mass entrepreneurship and innovation.
The National Engineering Laboratory operates under a director-responsible system led by a council and has multiple research centers based on research content and cooperation with different partners.
The laboratory's core mission and goal are to develop and build a "high-performance big data computing platform." It plans to focus on key technology breakthroughs in big data, the research and development of core big data systems, the design of typical big data application cases, the demonstration of big data application results, and the incubation of the big data industry. The goal is to form a systematic body of big data technology achievements with independent intellectual property rights, high-level talent teams, and public service platforms, becoming a leading intellectual support and technical service base for China's innovative and entrepreneurial ecosystem in the field of big data.
The National Engineering Laboratory will fully leverage Shenzhen University's foundation in supercomputing, big data platforms, and big data analysis, as well as the complementary advantages of the joint construction units in data resources, application scenarios, and industrialization capabilities. It will focus on the common key technologies that constrain the application of big data, especially the high-performance, highly available system computing and analysis technologies suitable for big data characteristics. The laboratory will conduct systematic technological breakthroughs and build a domestically leading and internationally first-class big data technology innovation platform. Additionally, it will focus on cutting-edge areas such as spatiotemporal big data, intelligent manufacturing big data, video streaming big data, and social network big data to develop big data application cases and demonstration applications actively. The laboratory aims to promote collaborative innovation and industrialization in big data with academia and industry, contributing technological, talent, and case support to the realization of China's big data strategy.
